The Prosthodontic
Associates staff initially contacted me with a downed server.
This was caused by an extreme power fluctuation, but was serious
enough that the server was taken offline for a prolonged amount
of time. During this time, I made the recommendation that we
install a backup server, in essence a smaller, standby server
that would run constantly and only provide its services when
there was an error with the primary server. An automated backup
procedure and scripting was written to mirror the critical
system data from the primary server at daily intervals. When the
primary server fails, users need only double-click an icon on
their desktops to re-route their data to the standby server.
This functionality
was provided at an amazingly low cost to the practice. Ask
